Does not meet RS-485 specifications

This part does not properly control the RS-485 bus. This doesn't even work in my point-to-point setup, but it might work for some people depending on cable length and receiver type. The problem, as shown in the diagram, is that the activation of the transfer driver (DE, pin 3 on the MAX485) is controlled by the transfer signal. This means if the adapter sends a 1, there is no drive current and the MAX485 goes into receive mode. If you need to meet the RS-485 standard, please select another…

Works GREAT with the Aurora Power One inverter

I needed a backup RS485 converter for my Aurora Power One inverter. I use the free Aurora Mon program and an inexpensive 7 inch Windows tablet to monitor my solar arrays in my home. This type of adapter is required to connect the tablet to the inverter. Works like a champ! LEDs to indicate traffic, but for the price you can't beat this device.

Can connect to my Pentair Pool Board for the first time.

My EasyTouch pool stopped working and I didn't want to buy another one as they are expensive. I installed Raspbian Stretch. NODEJS and nodejs-PoolController on my Raspberry Pi. I connected a JBtek USB to RS485 adapter to my Intellitouch communication port on -Data dn +Data. Launched nodejs-PoolCoontroller and Viola! Now I can see and control my equipment. Added Smartthings Device Handler and now I can see/control my pool equipment in my Smartthings app.

Customer care on another level!

I posted a review earlier and was a little rude to the seller. I think I may have acted too quickly and didn't wait for the adapter's failure rate to be explained. Instead I blamed the seller for bad details. They have since contacted me to resolve the issue without my asking. I am currently using this product to control my PTZ camera and it is great. I recommend this product to everyone and the customer service is incredible.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Crumpled

Works well for 2-wire RS485 network on my Windows XP, 7 and 8.1 computers. My only complaint is that Windows XP machines don't automatically load drivers as stated in the description, so I'm deducting a star. If you need XP drivers, you can find them online. The ones I ended up using and working on were here. and point to the directory you just unzipped the files to.

Easy-to-Find Drivers

RS-485 Base USB Converter. Allows connection to multiple automation devices such as temperature controllers, frequency converters, microcontrollers and programmable relays. The drivers are easy to find and the screw terminals have a nice feel, allowing you to make your own cable. One issue is that the case is so cheap it almost comes off, but it works well for significantly less money so I can excuse the poor quality of looks. Note that this is an unshielded 2-wire serial connection and is…

Pros
  • USB Network Adapter
Cons
  • Requires Socket

Some of these worked between a Win7 laptop and a Raspberry Pi 2 USB port with a 4ft cable at speeds of 230400, 460800 and 500000 bps. It doesn't work at 576000 bps or higher on the R-Pi. Between the two Win7 ports it ran at 921600. I didn't need to install any drivers on either computer. The RPi command lsusb says "1a86:7523 QinHeng Electronics HL-340 USB-Serial Adapter" and dmesg says USB2.0-Serial, USB Serial Support is registered for ch341-uart which is now connected to ttyUSB0. Works well, not as long as I hoped

Great price; Plug and play detection in Windows 10, Ubuntu and Unraid; durable construction. This has been used and worked well for my PC to be connected to a Pentair Easytouch pool system (connected to the pool data interface via 2 long CAT5 line wires and controlled with nodejs-poolController on Github). Let me avoid using the overly expensive and inferior network interfaces that Pentair and other pool companies make to connect to pool controllers. The only downside is that my first one made…
