These shakers get the job done. Although their bases and lids have a metal finish, the shakers appear to be made entirely of acrylic, so they're unlikely to shatter if dropped, which always comes in handy in the kitchen. They fill from the bottom, which is best done with a funnel, and contain plenty of salt and pepper. Despite my low rating, there are things I like about these shakers. The lightweight, clear acrylic construction is practical, tactile, modern and visually striking. The shiny silver-plated inserts are attractive and durable: I tried to significantly damage the plating surface with a metal object and failed.
