I have found that using a wind vane for purposes other than training or hunting is impractical. You're just better off holding a kestrel for competition.

I use this to get wind information when flying UA and when shooting long distances. Very valuable information, the device works perfectly.

It fits and works fine but is made of molded plastic and should cost around $30. The cover is dense nylon, but not soft. It looks like a bigger shovel or longer shaft would make it more sensitive. It's smaller than it looks in the picture.

I first saw this mount on SHOT where it was mounted on a tripod on a hill above the range and streamed to nearby receivers for long range operation. Keeping you informed of weather conditions, whether on the trail or at home, is invaluable.
