No problems with the keychain.

Perfect fit. Be sure to check the hole position as shown in the direction. Also, I had a problem after the key could not be recognized. I replaced the battery and all the buttons worked, the car started and then died again because the guards thought the car was stolen. I had to go to the dealer and reprogram.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • No performance

Just a little work to do it yourself.

I didn't cut the blades, I just swapped them out for the ones in the keys I already had and they fit perfectly. The only trick was a glass vial with a radio transmitter. Everyone said to pull it out, but the glass is flimsy and breaks easily. Instead, I tried cutting off the plastic with a dremmel (the original shells were pretty worn anyway) and they popped out slightly.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

This doesn't fit my 2008 VW Jetta

I've only had trouble getting this to work with my key old the part where the key and rfid chip is. So I figured I'd just swap out the blank for a cut key, and after that I realized I hadn't moved my RFID chip. I'm trying to get it right now. DO NOT buy this. Don't waste time replacing them.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Worked very well for a 2007 VW Jetta

The bottom part that allows you to attach this key to your keychain broke on the fob and I wanted that feature back. After a simple YouTube video tutorial, I was able to take the old keychain apart and transfer most of the parts to the new one. The transmitter chip was not that easy to pull out and I was afraid that I would break it. So I decided to keep the old fob on top with the real metal key from the old fob and replaced the bottom/buttons/panic button with the new one and it worked great.

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • So-so

Nice replacement case at a good price with a small flaw

Replaced my two 12 year old VW key cases with these, fit/finish is good, all parts fit, everything is fine EXCEPT the immobilizer . The original cases have a sealed compartment for the immobilizer, you drop it, snap the two pieces together and you're done. These interchangeable cases have a pill compartment, but it's open at the end so your pill can fall out if you rip the remote. I had to insert the tablet using a small dab of hot glue to keep the tablet in the case. It's not a deal breaker…

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

PRICE RIGHT. BEAN!

Very satisfied I have no problems with this item. I didn't bother to cut out a new keychain. Nor should you do it unless a new key fob is required. Transfer the old key fob (part of the key) to the new case. Open the old main body, remove the circuit board and "snap" it into place. Remove the VW logo sticker (that's where the battery lives) and put in a new battery while you're there. I had a fully functional remote/key in 5 minutes. I've lost some functions on my remote control because the…

Great quality, a few installation issues but easy to fix at home

I ordered this to replace my daughter's key fob for her 2002 Beetle. The quality of the new case is very good and she is very satisfied. Although there was some trouble putting it all together (besides my own difficulties). It comes with a small screwdriver to take the key section apart - the tip of the screwdriver is too small for the screw and won't loosen it. Luckily I have a tiny set of screwdrivers so I removed them, but if you don't have one you could be in trouble. The biggest problem is

DO NOT USE a small screwdriver! and don't lose the microchip capsule.

I bought this to replace the case body as the end of my original keyring broke off. The key fob consists of two main parts: the front half holds the spring together and contains the microchip, while the back half contains the button circuit and battery. You can replace the internal button IC on the back half of the key by splitting the back of the case into 2 halves after splitting. Resist the temptation to unscrew the plate on the new part with a screwdriver unless you really have to - it…

  • Definitely a bad product

Cheap way to upgrade keys

My original VW keys lasted about 13 years before the bottom handle of both keys broke and I could no longer attach them to my keyring. This replacement key works very well and is probably the cheapest 'good' way to upgrade your keys. Installation was easy, it took me about 30 minutes to make both keys. Simply remove the old key and transfer the key blade, electronics and transponder to the new key. The transponder popped out of the old key easily after I heated it with a heat gun for a few…
