💯 Efficient Black Killer Dowel Pin KDP Repair Kit for Dodge 1989-1998 Cummins 12 Valve Engines 5.9BT: Enhance Performance and Prevent Engine Damage Review

I looked at other KDP fixes but I chose this one because even if both come off it hits the front cover and can never fall off.

Much smarter than other designs. With this attitude. Even if the screw comes off. It still holds the dowel pin because the holder is long enough to rest against the front timing case cover.

Glad I stumbled across this piece while looking through other pieces. Luckily my KDP hasn't budged (after 275,000 miles) but I know it's not going anywhere with this lock. Anodizing is a nice touch. A deal on the side that could save your million-mile engine from self-destructing.

Fit and finish was good, used on 01 Ram 2500 with 24v Cummins. The KDP was said to be 6bt in earlier years, but when I opened up the timing cover to change seals I found that it was noticeably sticking out of the hole. A quick hit with a slap and a hammer covered with that tongue; red Loctite on threads; well another 300 thousand.

Most of the work is that you can install a KDP patch instead of actually installing it. And in my case, I found that fixing was not necessary because the dowel pin had loosened at some point. Fortunately, when he got out, he did little damage. I installed this KDP patch anyway since I figured out what the heck.

This kit did exactly what it was supposed to do: prevent the pin from coming out even if the screw loosens. I like the design because it's a light-hearted solution: even if the bolt comes loose, the bolt and tab won't allow the adjusting pin to come out far enough to fall out, there just isn't enough room behind the cover. so that at least one of them falls out. Great design!

A key point is missing from the photos and information: assemble so that the tab/tab is flush with the timing case. When installed with a gap between the KDP and the lug, the lug may rotate when the screw loosens, which may allow the KDP to come out, but is more likely to cause this lug to collide with the gear train! Might be worse than loosening the dowel pin. Still: avoid all the mess, install it right. I have attached photos.
