Unreliable: Hard Drive Enclosure

After installing and connecting 2 identical 1TB Crucial SSDs, it worked once. I ran it in PM mode (single drives). I formatted and rebooted a drive. My laptop is frozen. Then it doesn't boot when the thing is plugged in, the adapter reboots. It looks like it takes some extra power when running two SSDs. I used an extra USB power cable, otherwise Windows told me there was a power surge and the USB bus was unable to power this device. But even with the power cord it only worked intermittently and

It could be tighter, but it does the job.

Works well. As other reviewers have mentioned, the fit and finish could be a little tighter. However, it did what I bought it for. Transfer speed was great and installation was quick.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Weight

Good build quality, easy assembly. Worked well with WD Blue M.2 2080 form factor. Came from USB-C to USB-C and USB-A for extra power if needed. I haven't tried the performance with two SDDs there. UASP works well on macOS and Windows 10. Does not work on Linux. The reason is that in this case an ASM1352R USB controller is used, which does not meet its specifications; The macOS and Windows 10 kernels have drivers that fix this, but the mainstream Linux kernel does not. To use BOT fallback…

The best USB-C enclosure on the market for Mac

I've tried several USB-C enclosures. Basically, it's expensive junk. For some reason this guy is only $13 and works great. It's USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps, metal and fast. With a 1 TB Samsung 850, I tested a write speed of 460 MB/s and a read speed of 515 MB/s. It comes with a good USB-C to USB-C cable that isn't too short. Pros: - Fast - Reliable - Affordable - Sturdy metal construction - Detachable logic board - USB-C 10 Gbps - Includes a good cable. Cons: - Not screwless (nbd) - Doesn't include…

  • This is great

Dual mSATA works great!

Old mSATA SSDs have been converted to be used as an external drive and this is perfect for all needs. When connecting multiple SSDs, be sure to move the jumper so that it is not connected, otherwise the enclosure will format the drives in RAID 0/1. You may want to purchase a USB-C to USB-A cable as this cable is not included and I had to buy something extra. Other than the notes above, this case works as described. The read/write speed is fast, but the case gets warm during very long read/write

excellent, very cool

excellent, very cool. small/compact, discreet on the desktop, very easy to install hard drives, very quiet in use, take 2 2.5" Seagate Barracuda 4TB and put in Raid 1 and you have 2 copies of all your files on your Desktop, then place them in your fireproof safe and you're good to go. very easy to set up, absolutely recommendable, and a great price! This is the only case that appears to support 15mm extra-thick 2.5-inch 4TB drives. Check the thickness of your drive before buying anything else…

You have to set it up as a permanent device or it won't stay connected

When you set it up as a removable disk it doesn't work properly. I have a laptop hard drive and it works very well as a plugged in drive that's always on. I never turn it off because it is assigned a drive letter etc. If you know the workarounds it's a good cheap drive enclosure and I'm getting really good speed out of it as I use it for storing 3D models and Adobe package work.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

3 dead devices on computer and accessories

This is for NGFF-USB3.1, NGFF-USB3.0 and NGFF-USBC models (black m.2 dual case) I have 2 of 5 of these devices, I bought the first one (USB3.1) in a micro center and it worked with one drive, but when I connected a second drive it could kill itself. I went ahead and returned this one and got a replacement on Amazon and this arrived DOA, no light, nothing plugged in, nothing. I then took a NGFF USB3.0 (black m.2 single case) and although this type works it has serious connection problems. The…

The best 3.5 inch HD display outer shell on the market!

Of the half dozen or so 3.5" HD boxes I've owned over the years, this is my favorite. I bought two. The construction is premium and solid, while the thick aluminum body keeps the hard drive cool. I've run them through terabyte after terabyte and so far they've worked great with no issues. Will buy again. Highly recommended!

Pros
  • Regular price
Cons
  • Requires socket
