I bought this hoping to get rid of the knife holder and dish bin. It does a great job of lifting the knives up and out of the way, but that's about it. You can't use hooks and safely place knives on magnetic strips, you have to choose. If you try to use the hooks, the knives will become unstable and fall down, which is a real danger. I bought these for my rec room wall to hold scissors, rulers and other tools that I always lose. The curvature of the hooks was too sharp to easily attach and detach the rulers as the holes are a bit lower than most kitchen tools, but that's easily fixed with a pair of pliers. While the magnetism seems strong enough for the flatter blades, the scissors are a little easier to detach than I'd like - perhaps a magnetic bar for tools would have been stronger, but the ones I've seen were too strong.

I bought this to replace a dedicated knife magnet strap when I realized my kitchen didn't have enough room for a separate knife magnet and utensil strip.
