The design is really good for several reasons: 1) the grill part is wide and long so you don't have to try and grate things into small pieces; 2) The handle is thicker and heavier than other graters, making it easier to hold and control when you hold something to grate directly on a bowl or food; 3) The plastic cover is easy to put on and take off; 4) the color is very pleasant (dark red, not fiery red); and 5) the rubber tip keeps the grater in place as it rubs…

I really liked this Kitchenaid collection. I have a spatula and it's probably the best I've found. Like the spatula, it's well built, exceptionally heavy and well balanced, and the red handle and chrome details look particularly nice. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this grater as it is so blunt that it does not grate anything. Maybe I just got a "bad" item? I don't know, but it won't work. This grater does its job well, but it's not quite the quality I've come to expect from KitchenAid. I've used it to peel lemons and it's more convenient than my grater for that. It also works well with small amounts of ginger, garlic, cheese, etc. However, it's not very convenient if you need to sprinkle more than just a small amount on top. I like this grater. I have 5 flat micro graters including a fine grater and this one from KitchenAid works much better. What I particularly like is that the metal it's made of is flat and very hard, you have a lot more grinding surface, it doesn't bend under pressure or clog with hairy ginger like the Microplane does.
