PC runs faster with 2GB than with 512MB RAM

I finally decided to upgrade the RAM on my Dell Latitude D800 I bought in 2005 with Win XP Pro. I searched the internet for what I needed (crucial.com website actually I think) and chose this company because they had good reviews and a good price. The memory came quickly, I just wasn't in a hurry to install it. I noticed that the sticky paper holding the closed plastic clamshell said "Lifetime Warranty" so that was good - if there was a problem I wouldn't expect, "oh but you have over Waited 14

Pros
  • Big selection
Cons
  • Not the best

Shipping was great and they fit like my old Dell 8600.

I would give these modules a 5 - if they worked out of the box. Shipping was great and they fit my old Dell 8600 (to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB) like a glove. Well, as I explained to the tech team at KomputerBay via email, I took the battery out very carefully and grounded myself on the install, but they were still DOA. Tech service responded by asking for a photo of the units, then saying they were Dell specs and had (already!) got a replacement on the way to me. He also included a return label…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Sad unit

Perfect for Compaq Presario X1000

I bought this laptop in 2003 and it still works! I certainly don't use this laptop for everyday work, but I needed a very basic computer to stay connected to my Noritsu film scanner. I bought an ultrabook because the TN panels on offer are so bad that there was no point in spending $300 on something that bad. My X1000 was running Windows XP and was extremely slow so I upgraded the RAM and installed Windows 7, now it runs like clockwork and is perfect for scanning films!

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Fits

How I brought XP back to life

I have a computer that I originally bought for $2,000 - a "desktop replacement" that had all the bells and whistles back then. Unfortunately, the word DESKTOP once escaped me; and I put it on the TV table and knocked it over; Fry the screen. As a result, the computer sat idle for three years until I decided to get the monitor working with it. However, there was a bottleneck. In order to function under current conditions, the memory continued to use "virtual" memory since it was only "1/2…

  • Positive only

  • No instructions

I wish I had had those years ago.

I was experimenting with the pre-release version of Windows 10 on my laptop when I realized that while it worked, it was better to have more RAM. Outdated Toshiba Satellite model: M45-S331. I bought them not knowing if they would be compatible with the system. I was so glad I did. Going from 512 megabytes to 2 GB was so nice. I was actually so glad I turned around and bought another DDR2 kit for my other Toshiba Satellite model: A105-S2141 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LT6MFI…

  • Cool

Dead on Arrival: Memory

Before anyone thinks I don't know what I'm doing or don't know how to deal with electrostatic sensitive electronics, think again. I've been working with computers since 1982 when the first IBM PC came out. That RAM was dead. I bought 2x1GB and not a single bank worked. I bought these as an upgrade for my laptop (and yes, my laptop can run 2GB of RAM). I plugged them in, reinstalled all the terminals and covers, applied power and pressed the power button. A moment of Disk IO, then silence. No…

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Compatibility

Still not lightning fast like today's machines, but I wasn't expecting it, I just wanted my old laptop to be comfortable and functional. Memory cards, a new hard drive, a new fan, and a dust-free heatsink put it in pretty premium condition. Memory cards…

Old HP laptop upgraded from 512MB RAM to 2GB RAM

I actually had problems with this RAM when I first installed it. I took out both sticks and checked them one by one and they were both fine. When both installed together, RAM gave me over 100,000 errors in memtest86. So I decided to install and test a RAM stick in the top slot. Everything went well. Then I moved the first stick to the second slot and it worked for me too. I repeated this with the second rack of lamb. Memtest86 no longer showed any errors. So I installed another 2GB flash drive…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
