Suitable for shaping spoons but not as fast as I thought

I bought Cutzal millstones to use for shaping spoons. They work as intended, but I expected them to run faster and remove more wood. Instead of cutting away a lot of wood, the rough burr slowly removed the inside of the spoon. I've used the burr on both the grinder and the drill press. I had better luck with the drill. UPDATE: In just one week, the price dropped from $25 to $17. I'm not happy about such a big price change from the seller, namely Kutsal.

Quality tool that works!

I use this cutter when I need to cut bowls for spoons from hard, dry wood. I still prefer to use traditional kerfs on almost all spoons I carve, but I've encountered some good but extremely hard mangoes and ironwoods that I wouldn't risk my good kerfs with. This drill did its job well. It leaves a nice 40 grit sandpaper-like finish, at least at slow speeds on my pedal lathe. Even with these rough results, the surfaces are quickly cleaned with small grinding wheels. This tool does exactly what I

Kutzall Sphere 1/4 Shank

I own Typhoon and Saburr. Kutsal is really good, I have no complaints. It's good quality and I love the gold color but I know it won't last forever. I see great potential for carving spoons or other projects that require depth to carve. I bought the fine one, it's not as aggressive as the coarse one, but hey I use a chisel too. I used a Dremel, Foredom and Proxxon 50E to carve finely detailed wood carvings. But laser cutting like carving can only be achieved with a sharp tube, which is why I…

Beware of size differences

This is a really great tool for removing large amounts of material. I use it on a tree. The small spikes remain very sharp even after prolonged use. It tends to clog easily, so keep a brush handy to clean the material between the spikes. SIZE WARNING. I ordered 1" thinking the outside diameter was 1" but it's not. It appears that 1 inch is the diameter of the ball that the spikes are attached to. I think the correct term is root diameter; I would just like to know. If you measure the ball…

Suitable for my spoon carving

Bought to try and use as an extra tool for spoon carving. So far this works for me. I use it after I start carving the bowl. I shape the bowl into small enough indents, then use a millstone to cut enough material so I can get large indents, and hook in the knife to complete the depth of the bowl. I hammered it into my drill press. Not sure what RPM is, but it runs slower because I'm using bigger Forstner bits in the press. I didn't expect this to do all the work, but now I don't always have to…

Better than Saburr Tooth

I'm really surprised by the quality of this instrument. I used it to carve the hollow part of a spoon and it worked beautifully. I made 2 spoons from the same maple board. I used a rough Saburr Tooth shot on one board and a rough Kutzall on the other. Based on looks, I thought the Saburr Tooth would do the job better, but the Kutzall actually performed better, both in terms of speed of material removal and ease of use. I thought the kutzall would clog with wood and need cleaning every few…
