Description of KYB 344110 Excel G Gas Shock

KYB recommended OEM replacement shock. Specifically calibrated to help restore the original handling and control characteristics of the Thunderbird and Cougar. Uses a seamless working cylinder matched with a Teflon coated piston band for a positive seal and longer life. Triple chrome plated piston rod and multi-lip oil seals that reduce wear. Solid seamless mounting eye rings and bolt bushings to eliminate rattles.

Type of review

. Shocks to replace the stock shocks in my '97 Cougar 30th Anniversary Edition, mainly because my experience with them in the past has been that the KYB is a 'sporty' shock. be a good substitute. no They are significantly softer than the 16-year-old originals. When I replace all of the bushings in the independent rear suspension, which will happen in the next few months, I will be looking for either genuine original "sport" shock absorbers or another aftermarket brand. just in case" .

Not very good but I would probably buy again

I drove the car about 500 miles after installing it. I've noticed that these shocks don't like hot weather. As temps approach 100, a rough pad tends to reduce performance significantly, and you'll feel every little imperfection of the pad. I attribute this to foaming, which is either cheap shock fluid or gas loss, but once it cools it seems to work fine again on the same roads as well. Note that this only happens with rear shock absorbers. Monroe's up front with 25,000 miles seem good. I…
