Top Holes Didn't Match

Top holes didn't match on either shock. I had to hammer it in a few times and probably permanently damaged the threads on my pilot just to force them in. The ground was too wide for one of the shots and had to be hit as well. The ride was good, after that I felt the difference as I could feel the feedback from the road a lot more than before.

Not for 2009 Honda Pilot

After many, many, many attempts to install them on a 2009 Honda Pilot I had to give up. The top holes are misaligned - even after repeatedly raising and lowering the car with minimal adjustments to try to align the holes. There are similar reviews that also point to this issue with the 2009 Honda Pilot's top vents. I didn't want to drill holes or enlarge them, that's not my job. Poor manufacturing, poor quality assurance processes.

  • Great for a small home

HAD BOLT ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS

I would give this 5 stars but like other reviewers I had trouble aligning the screw holes and had to drill the first hole to fit. Luckily the second one went as it should. The shock quality looks good and well built, but only time will tell how durable it will be. They were still half the price of the local auto parts store, just took a little longer than necessary to install. As another reviewer noted, this must be a quality control issue.

Requires modified washers

The mounting crossbar is tubular, which creates a gap between the crossbar and the mounting frame and nut. Shims are needed to fill gaps for strength (transparency). "Made in Mexico" stamped on packaging, not sure where exactly it was made but recovery is a little SLOWER than I expected. However, $70 for the shock is the right price for performance. The ride is a little stiff, but cornering stabilizes the car as expected. Overall 5 stars for performance in its price range. Clarity - 2 stars for

Good value for money

The first rear passenger side shock absorber was easily installed in about 20 minutes. Unfortunately not without the driver's side. I don't know exactly why, but the shock didn't match the bolts. After some creative manipulation, some frustration and about two hours, I was able to install it. Ride is improved, although perhaps a tad stiffer than we'd like. I'm giving it four stars because I'm not sure if it was a bump or a car that caused the bolts to misalign. I think they're good value for…

The shock is decent but the top holes are tricky

Installed on a 2011 Honda Pilot. I've probably fitted shock absorbers to a few dozen cars over the years, so I know how complicated suspension parts can be. They were difficult to install on the top bracket - the screw holes are too close together. One of the two is a bit elongated (perhaps to accommodate other applications), but even then it was the hardest part of the install. I've made others that have 2 holes cut all the way through - I don't know why it wouldn't work here or why they just…

Vehicle: 2011 Honda Pilot Touring, 75,000 miles. Like: Everything is metal. Ease of installation. Ride after installation: slightly stiffer (which is nice) and there is a small difference, but not that much. Installation: I am towing a camper and at 75,000 miles it is recommended to replace the stock shocks. I'm not a car fan. I watched some youtube videos that gave me confidence so I went. I put two in the back. You only need to loosen 3 screws on each side. Two small ones at the top and a…

Update - Too stiff with new springs.

**UPDATE** 140,000 miles. Replaced the old worn out rear springs with original Honda parts and the ride was very stiff. Great for corners. Not so much for comfort. Too much for me. My friend noticed that my pilot drove like his jeep. From KYB to Honda OE shock absorbers. If you don't plan on replacing the springs, these may be for you. After 125,000 miles on the original, it's time for a replacement. Some tips on using KYB to restore driving comfort. Revain had them for $56 each. Much cheaper…
