worth the money.

If you want to buy one of these, order the Kevlar glove first as well. Your thumb, your guests and the regional blood bank will thank you. The grater does NOT particularly impress me. Works fine, I use veggies not cheese. The planer and mandolin are amazing. And extremely sharp.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Very expensive

First impression: Plastic julienne blade

The vertical blade that cuts vegetables into strips is made of plastic. (Horizontal - Ceramic). The adjustable mandolin thickness adjustment is a square plastic bar at the bottom that has different height shims on each side of the bar that adjust the height of the pivoting platform to adjust the slice thickness.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation

Ideal for cutting onions and potatoes.

I bought this to chop onions and potatoes to make grilled onion burgers, Philadelphia cheese sandwiches and potato pancakes. Works great, but super duper sharp. Be sure to use the protective cover (included) or cut-resistant cooking gloves. I use the latter. One slip and you'll lose your fingertip, so don't try it barehanded.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Crumpled

Excellent thin slices, somewhat flimsy plastic

This is my second Kyocera straw cutter and straw. Older versions bought 5 years ago are heavier in construction. The box, which is intended to serve as storage and container, is made of wafer-thin styrofoam and ripped when opened to remove the slicing knives. . Regardless, the blades are still great and I haven't found anything better for slicing very thin slices.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Tiny with a 2.5 inch blade and thinner than a dime

I bought a Kyocera chef's knife (which I really like) to replace a cheap mandolin. Not enough space to cut a tomato for a steak. and although it's sharp, it surprisingly doesn't slice tomatoes any better than the stainless steel blade of a cheap mandolin, and because it's not adjustable, the tomato slices come out too thin. Might work for other veggies like carrots or zucchini, but slice thickness can be an issue. I don't expect a julienne blade to be any better.

I HATE this product

I bought this after reading an article on Epicurous that recommended it as a cheap but effective slicer. Wow I wouldn't want to try the others they compared it to. Tried the slider once with the golden Yukon potato - more like a potato. It always got stuck in the blade. The hand guard you use to push groceries through is pretty much useless. You have to press so hard to push the food through that it slides off the food leaving little marks of abrasion. I had to finish the job with a chef's…

Pros
  • Good for many
Cons
  • Some trouble
