Works well enough for what I need

I'm interested but I will rarely need it enough that I don't want to invest in a better mechanism. It looks pretty flimsy, but when handled with care it does what it's supposed to do very well. The tension of the needles to hold the thread is adjustable, and it's easy to set them too tight, which doesn't get in the way. It has instructions in its plastic case but I didn't find it until I put it away. With the ball crank, I used my free hand on the bottom of the Swift's spokes, to easily adjust…

Pros
  • Has a table clamp with wood screws to hold it in place and spins freely when you wind skeins onto the yarn winder (not included)
Cons
  • Doubtful

Design flaw

My only complaint is annoying. This is the main design flaw. The metal loops holding the plastic rods in place are folded into the twine. If your winder is not positioned exactly in the path where the yarn comes out of the swift exactly centered, the yarn will hang on the loops as it tilts up or down. A fairly simple solution is to hold the yarn so that it feeds the swift right down the middle. The downside is that if you wind up a lot of yarn, you have to be prepared for the rope to burn your…

Ideal! I will never live without again!

I have been spinning yarn from my own wool from my own sheep for 15 years. I had my own method of winding yarn onto a washer and dryer stand. Then the tedious process of manually unwrapping it from the rack so I can use my ball wrapper to make a center pull. What's the use of spending 30 minutes winding a ball of yarn on a roller, now it takes 5 minutes! I use this Swift horizontally as the instructions recommend. I use my free hand as I wrap the winder to guide the yarn, keeping it centered as

Pros
  • This tool supports different sizes of skeins for winding and balls of yarn
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
