I think this is the perfect stool for young and healthy people. I recently had a knee prosthesis and felt very unsteady climbing stairs while holding on to the handrails. If my knee wasn't weak, I don't think I would consider it unstable. I think for a healthy person who needs a little extra help getting to the closet this would be ideal.
