A Stout Tool to Remove and Install Fuel Tank Lock Rings without Damage. Channel design on body allows 2 interchangeable sets oflegs to adjust to fit rings from 4" to 7-1/4" and keeps thedrive centered. Works on the smaller GM serrated ringsand traditional rings. New leg set works on many 2004 and newer vehicles including Ford F150, Chevrolet pickups, Chrysler/Dodge mini vans, PT Cruiser, Dakota and Durango. Not for use on Buick Lesabre

Ring Removal Tool is very strong and very well made. The downsides are that it doesn't fit the 2001 Buick Lesabre fuel pump ring. It's approaching about 4 inches, but the angle isn't right. It only hits 2 points. Insufficient ring contact for proper rotation.

Worked on my Cadillac

Used on my 2000 Cadillac. I have used extensions with three tabs on the tool, but only two tabs engage when the retaining ring is squeezed. I used a breaker that was inserted between the extensions like a crowbar on the sheet metal of the car. In this case, the two reeds involved are not 180 degrees apart, which prevents the instrument from slipping. It only worked because this car had a trunk lid.

The rotating nuts need to be replaced with something stronger

The premise is good and if the rotating nuts are replaced with real nuts and maybe some washers then this tool will do what it takes. But with manual torque on these nuts, trying to move a really stuck ring just didn't happen. Otherwise the build quality is good, it won't break, but the adapters for the non-plastic ring won't stay in place causing loss of torque and inoperability so I had to rip it off and risk hitting the plastic tank I bought the right tool. another unregulated one would not…

For Older GM Vehicles

The fuel pump on my 2001 Cadillac is held in place by a 5 lobe retaining ring as shown in the attached picture. (Who on earth decided five petals was a good idea? Why wasn't the ring made of stainless steel? And why hasn't anyone made a proper removal tool?) Anyway, my ring was original and rusty, and so far I know no one makes a proper tool to help with the removal. This is the closed one I could find and with some difficulty it worked. In my case, the rusty outer tabs of the locking ring bent
