Go with Garmin, do yourself a big favor

Sonar works about half the time. I had to buy an extension. Would not recommend for ocean going vessels. I'm buying a new boat and now I'm screwing up selling my old boat with this crap on it. You will not refund it after using it for only one month! I hope they see this techie and teach me so I can get him back. There are no installations or instructions for use. These are all the videos you need to watch on the device. There are no maps for the ocean at all! Had to buy a $100 Navionics SD…

Depth gauge not working

I have used this unit twice. The first time I used it I had to constantly turn it off and on to see the depth on the side display. in known water, and the chart itself shows over 50 feet on screen but not on the side display. Then I got the Navionics Chesapeake Bay Charts and figured this might fix the problem. (I got that too when the unit worked as the base charts aren't the best.) I installed Navionics Chart and the problem persisted the second time I got my boat out. I had exactly the same…

Look elsewhere for good marine electronics

I excitedly bought this to use on my kayak to help with bass fishing. The installation went exactly as I planned without any problems. Something went wrong while using the device. I chose a device with preloaded maps hoping to use contour lines to narrow down fishing areas. However, I've been to 6 or 7 lakes in central North Carolina and not once did maps help. Although they contain some contour lines, they only show one line for every 10 feet of depth change (one line at 10 feet, one line at…

50% of the time it works every time.

Cons: Issues with transducer/sounder, power cord, memory card/lack of instructions. Pros: Ability to map the lake or download maps from Genesis. I've been waiting for a fish finder like this for a long time, but will soon get another one, Garmin or Humminbird. In about 50% of the cases the sensor does not work. You get a water temp reading to know it's plugged in, but the sonar portion doesn't work. It takes a few minutes to unplug it, plug it back in, and restart before it works. I used it a…
