OEM Air Filter for my E46 M3

The cheapest thing you can get is an OEM filter for your BMW. It will not have a BMW logo on the box or on the filter. But it's the same overpriced filter that BMW sells you with their logo.

Doesn't fit my 2009 BMW X3

My filter on the left, replacement filter on the right is advertised as a perfect fit for the 2009 BMW X3. It's not even close. But I was able to send it back with no problems.

Excellent quality product!

Perfect fit for my 1999 BMW M3. I've gotten rid of previous owners of K and N air filters and my fuel setup is superb! LTFT 0-0.8. About 2.3 with the old filter if this information is useful to someone else. Let's go back to the flow designed by the factory! Will buy again in due course, very satisfied, high quality filter. Tight fit! I'm pretty confident in the performance of this filter.

I suspect its purpose is to catch coarse dirt that gets in there before it clogs the thinner paper filter

The image is not entirely representative, this filter has a white, thick, flat layer (3/8 inch - coarser Stack filter 1/2" fiberglass on top. I suspect it should catch the coarse dirt that gets in there before the finer paper filter gets clogged. I had the same filter last year and replaced it after over 8000 miles, haven't notice any performance issues.
