Description of Precision Trim Nail Punch: Malco TNP3S Tool for Seamless Finishing
The TNP3S, Pocket Sized Trim Nail Punch, is constructed of hardened steel and corrosion resistance to ensure longer tool life. The tool will hold and install standard 1-1/4” (31.2 mm) trim nails. The small size allows easy access to recesses of formed trim pieces. A hex collar prevents rolling when tool is set down.
Essential for shortening nails, especially in hard-to-reach places. This is the smallest I've found. . It fits in a pocket or tool belt and you forget it's there.
Like: Prevents accidental pinching of fingers. More effective than grabbing cut nails with, say, pliers. Dislikes: It's long so it doesn't get lost, but can be shorter to fit tight spaces. However, if you want a shorter one, you can get it from another company for about $8.50.
I tried another brand but the copper nail heads were too wide. This works pretty well, REALLY speeds up the installation of the gasket and eliminates all the inconveniences. And you can use it to drive nails flush without having to come back with a punch to finish the job. A simple tool but a game changer for this use.
This is the nail punch you need if you just want one in your bag - it has almost no 'dimples', protrusions between the hole and the punch - meanwhile the larger versions have quite a bit of clearance between the punch and the bore. The plastic is almost enough to keep it from rolling, they could be a little wider or a little more tactile or a little more vibration absorbing. But still the best punching tool on the market.
