🐠 Mardel 5-in-1 Test Strips for Freshwater and Saltwater Aquariums Review

These strips are easy to use but I didn't realize they had a limited shelf life and would be inaccurate next season. I checked and they have expired. The amount of 100 is probably more than you will use in a year. But if you know about them, they really save you a lot of time. But the price of a test season is high.

Find them right in this area as pH colors are a little hard to read but are good in all other areas. They mostly get a bad rap for being inaccurate, but that's not true, and they stand up and agree with the results of other test suites.

These strips are easy to use except for pH testing. There is not much difference between the oranges on the pH comparison chart and the color of the pH strip does not match anything on the bottle. I used a liquid pH test, which seems more accurate (or at least easier to read). Be sure to wait a full minute before testing for nitrates as it takes time for the color to develop.

I've been trying to raise the pH in my aquarium with test strips for a while but the pH color has never changed. So I tested the water at the fish store. As a result, my pH had already increased and was now too high. Unusable test strips! Tests for nitrates and nitrites work. The other 2 buffers and hardness never changed so I don't know if they are stable in my tank or if they don't work either. I will not buy this product again.

Both the Mardel and Jungle brands sold in pet stores are far inferior to the older brand test strips previously sold by Petco stores. This product, discontinued three years ago, offered clear visual contrasts in color and intensity for the different 6 factors tested. I usually use a full test for every aspect of water quality, but filling bottles, adding chemicals and waiting for results is so tedious. I find these strips to be a great quick water quality test. I don't recommend using them as your only test, but they're good for an intermediate test. I compared the accuracy of the strips to the full test kit I have and found that the strips are actually slightly different in some aspects.
