A goo kit to try your hand with fine flexible pens

This is a starter kit with 2 types of flexible nibs, four of one 2 of the other. If you have ever used a fine dip pen with a straight pen holder you know how easy it is to catch on paper when you change direction. The pen holder helps you lighten your touch and keep writing.

Great nib selection

Great nib selection. Many professional calligraphers do not recommend the plastic oblique holder due to its lack of adjusting the nib up further into the holder when switching to different nibs. If you need an oblique holder and already have nibs, I suggest getting something else.

  • Love the bigger nib in this pack. I don't see myself using the smaller one but otherwise great!

  • Poor quality nibs, kept scratching the paper. Could not find one that produced a smooth flow.

Starter Copperplate Caligraphy Set

This pen and nibs are poor quality. The nibs are ‘scratchy’, do a poor job in writing. The tip of the nib should be placed in a straight line through the center of the pen body; I couldn’t place the nib in the correct spot. Do yourself a favor and buy the pen body from Etsy; they run about $20, are ‘turned’ wood. Try some Brause nibs.

Great starter kit for learning Copperplate script writing

Get a few books, ink and some tracing paper too. You will find your confidence increase as you practice as with most things. There are enough tips to get you through most styles. Enjoy!

Not smooth on upstroke; splatters ink

The tips of the nibs are so rigid and stiff that nearly each upstroke causes the nib to skid across the paper and splatter ink. We have been using Winsor & Newton ink (not inexpensive), and also have watched multiple beginner videos and continually modified our grip, pressure, and position in an attempt to fix the skipping, but the instructors we've watched have said that higher-quality nibs are slightly curved under at the tip, preventing the skidding and skipping on the upstroke. My advice is

Great Set.: my feedback

I find All Speedball products are great. This holder may or may not improve your lettering on a given day, but sometimes when I just can't get my writing groove on, I will switch my holder and find for some reason my hand preferred the Oblique that day. The nibs are different than those accompanying the straight pen, so I liked having more nibs to try out.

Earlier Useless! Can barely write with it and it gives me chicken skin! This pen alone will discourage anyone interested in calligraphy!Updated I changed my rating from 0 to 3 stars. One nib was defective and I rated the product from my bad experience with that one flawed nib (I was extremely annoyed). I tried two other nibs and it wrote better. I agree that this is a good beginners pen set. I would have given it a 4 star but for that faulty nib.
