This is the best all-purpose tape.

The product corresponds to the description and arrived quickly. I only gave it 4 stars because there is a better tape but it's hard to find. In addition to what I've used it for, I haven't had a high-end deck that had enough bias to penetrate non-ferrous metal strips. Ideal for voice recorders or regular soundboards for general music. At least these tapes keep their records longer.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Updates

The edge of the ribbon is damaged right out of the box!

Poor quality. Brand new tapes have a damaged tape edge. Of the 10 brand new tapes that were just taken out of the box (before being used in the tape recorder) I had 2 faulty ones. The tape edge (visible on side A) is wrinkled, resulting in poor sound on the left channel. It was incorrectly cut or wound at the factory. Very disappointed as there is such a limited choice of new audio cassettes these days.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Crumpled

Classic normal displacement cassettes

Excellent cassettes and moderately economical. Cassettes still have many uses and Maxell's has been one of my top choices over the years for quality and durability. For a while I had a harder time getting high offset tapes than regular offset tapes. This is a normal offset and now appears to be smaller than the high offset. I'm not sure where this is going, but if you want quality, normal-bias tapes I'd grab some while you still can.

  • Voice lecture recording

The best available dictation format.

The most durable dictation system ever. Developed by Philips (Germany). It appears that the 20 year old cassettes I tested still contain dictation dialogue thanks to the great design of the original cassette format. My DOS computer's old 5.25" floppy disks broke in 5 years! Thank you Philips designers, you are wonderful people. Cassette will always be my dictation format and should still be touted as the best. It's small but comfortable to hold in your hand, as are the small battery-powered…

Great if only used once to shoot.

Ordered these cartridges for meeting minutes. From the first use, the playback is clear and the sound quality is excellent. Unfortunately, when I use the cassette for the second time, it is distorted in some places, so that what was said can no longer be understood. This only happens when the ribbon is used a second time. I was a transcriptionist many years before the digital age and used cassette tapes over and over again with no problems. In fact, most of our cassettes were gone within a…

it works for recording high level music

Despite normal offset, it works great for recording high level music. I usually record in the red on the meters and this tape does everything well, almost as well as some high offset tapes. But no cassette is better than, for example, a TDK SA-90 with high preload, but they are so expensive that I don't bother with them anymore. But after more than 45 years of recording music on tape, I noticed something interesting. Normal bias tapes like this tend to retain more of their original recording…
