These boots are VERY comfortable!

As always, these Merrell hiking shoes are very well made and very comfortable! Only criticism is that the laces are too long, especially for kids.

Pros
  • Good shoes for the price. The laces are very thin but to be expected based on other reviews.
Cons
  • Not enough ankle support for more challenging hikes

Well-made shoes: my review

We started traveling more as a family and this brand was one of the most recommended so I was expecting a lot. You delivered! The fit was accurate and the quality seems top notch!

Pros
  • Comfortable fit
Cons
  • May not be suitable for extreme weather conditions

Buy laces separately

These are durable lightweight boots for my active 9 year old who regularly ruins shoes. They survived the rainy season quite well and still look good (after a little wiping with a damp cloth). The only negative are the laces and holes to thread them through. The laces themselves are very, very thin, almost the size of kitchen twine. And the ends also separated very easily, making it very difficult to thread the laces through the tiny holes. Get thicker laces and they'll be great kids' boots…

Pros
  • The Merrell OAKCREEK MID LACE WTRPF hiking shoes feature a breathable design that allows air to flow freely through the shoe, reducing perspiration and preventing odor build-up.
Cons
  • The weight of the boots may be too heavy for some users.

Great backpacker - a bit small

Children say that tourists are very comfortable. I've ordered several pairs and they all run 1/2 size smaller. I like that they are waterproof.

Pros
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • The design may not appeal to those looking for a more fashionable hiking shoe option.

Comfortable children's boots

The boots are comfortable, the child didn't want to take them off after the hike. The main disadvantage of them is that they are not waterproof and appear to be slightly water resistant.

Pros
  • Well made, comfortable and still waterproof!
Cons
  • The laces come undone easily and have to be retied constantly.

Merrell Kids Oakcreek Mid Lace Hiker Trainers

It is wonderful! They fit perfectly! comfortable! continuous! Hold shoelaces and stay tied! It's difficult to find shoes online and know they fit and are of good quality, but this Hiker is the way to go.

Pros
  • easy to put on, the laces seem very tight, maybe not for long but since I received black it will be possible to replace them
Cons
  • Bulky design may not be so convenient for everyday wear.

The color is completely different from the photo.

In the picture they appear brownish, in reality they are dark black-grey with an almost bluish tinge. Official color. Nothing like the pictures. Also, it looks a bit small.

Pros
  • Easy to turn on and off
Cons
  • The unisex sizing can make it difficult to find the right fit for every foot.

Not the real Merrel! good for me

I don't know who made these shoes but they are NOT Merrel quality. Size 5.5 is more suitable for 4.5. The material is cheap and looks cheap. And I've never seen shoelaces that thin. Those aren't shoelaces! What a disappointment! Back immediately

Pros
  • As described, fast shipping and great quality
Cons
  • Not available in half sizes, creating potential problems with proper fitting.

Great boots, just a little big

I usually wear women's size 5-5.5, I chose a size up to 6 as I have a thick brace that I have to wear on one of my ankles and my socks are usually thick. I wish I hadn't measured as they are slightly larger than the normal 6 and 5 would probably fit perfectly. Although that's my fault, otherwise these are great boots!

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • Limited size may not fit larger or smaller feet.

Perfect: my rating

Took for my kid since I have the same brand. Yes, the laces are small, very strong. Kiddo seems to think this tip size is easier to tie. Love her.

Pros
  • Very light shoes. Fits perfectly.
Cons
  • Difficult to clean and maintain suede upper

Not even waterproof

Second pair of these boots for my child. He loves them and they're fine for our hiking and horseback riding activities, but they're not even remotely water resistant, let alone waterproof as advertised.

Pros
  • The item arrived in perfect condition, brand new. happy customer
Cons
  • A thick sole can restrict flexibility and freedom of movement when hiking.

if your 6 year old still wants fashion in the woods

Our toddler just didn't want the standard brown or gray baby booties. They are high quality and one of the few that come in W sizes which are durable and waterproof. Haute couture on the trails and when camping.

Pros
  • Excellent quality. Daughter said they were comfortable. Keeps feet warm and dry on Teton hikes.
Cons
  • The waterproof material may not provide adequate ventilation, resulting in sweaty feet.

High-quality hiking shoes for children

They look just like the picture with vibrant colors my daughter loves. She says they are comfortable and have done several 3-mile hikes so far with no discomfort.

Pros
  • Designed for both boys and girls, the Merrell OAKCREEK MID LACE WTRPF hiking shoes are a key choice for families looking for quality hiking shoes that can be passed down from siblings.
Cons
  • It may take some time to get used to and comfortable for long hikes

Goes well with my judgement

Fits good. I bought a pair for each child. It was not necessary to take their"break". Just put them on a few hours before our first hike to make sure they don't rub anywhere. There was no way to really test "water resistance". For now I would buy again.

Pros
  • I bought this shoe for my son. We have always bought Merrell boots and this one did not disappoint.
Cons
  • High price compared to other hiking shoes on the market

Almost perfect in my rating

Very important. My son really liked them after a 5 mile hike - very comfortable and really waterproof (and he tried them on everywhere he could). The only criticism of the laces is that they are very thin and too long. I don't see them lasting more than a few months before we have to replace them.

Pros
  • Ideal for my son's hikes. It's too clumsy, but keep his feet dry.
Cons
  • Limited availability in one color only (Boulder

Cautiously optimistic

I've been looking for decent shoes for about ten years now. I had trouble walking, which I didn't realize at first. Until the cheapening of shoes in 2008, there really wasn't a big problem when they fell apart the moment you put them on. I've been through a lot of brands. I think it helps that this shoe is more like a boot. I'm a woman who wears size 5.5/6 shoes and I'm a size 4. I was able to break them in in one day - don't know if that's good or bad so I got one star. But I walk 3 hours with

Pros
  • Superior hold
Cons
  • The tread pattern may not provide adequate traction on slippery or uneven surfaces.

Not solid rubber outsole! No stop when walking/climbing

We tried another Merrell shoe at the REI climbing stand and my child had no grip due to the partial felt soles. When it comes to hiking shoes, grip is absolutely crucial! I bought these after looking at the pictures and was hoping for a solid rubber sole, but when I received them I noticed that Merrell reduced the cost by mixing felt/paper soles with rubber soles. It's similar to what Target and Payless Shoe Source make for cheap quality kids' shoes, but I wasn't expecting that from Merrell.

Pros
  • The Merrell OAKCREEK MID LACE WTRPF hiking shoes are waterproof and therefore ideal for hiking in any weather.
Cons
  • No option for wider or narrower widths

Comfortable, light but not waterproof

I bought them about a week ago. These shoes fit well and are not heavy or bulky. Today I was washing something in the sink and accidentally spilled some water. That's when I found out that these shoes are not remotely waterproof as Merrell/Walmart claim. Water flowed straight through the mesh upper/front to my toes, through my sock and to the removable insole. The purpose of buying these shoes was so that I would have waterproof quality for the upcoming winter rain and snow. This purchase…

Pros
  • My son loves these shoes.
Cons
  • The fur-lined collar may be a nuisance for some wearers.

would buy again

It is great! Bought a second time because the kids have outgrown them, not because they're worn out and carried them to school all winter last year. We walk to school so it was nice to be able to keep the kids feet dry and still be able to work out at the gym without having to change shoes! It's just perfect

Pros
  • I bought it at a great price and arrived with no problems.
Cons
  • I don't recommend anyone tanking like they're walking on rocks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great offer! to my rating.

The price was better than the sporting goods store and also the Merrell website and the quality is always the best. The grip is perfect for trekking and hiking, and they are 100% waterproof, keeping water out from the inside after a bad step has landed partially in the water.

Pros
  • Great durable shoe. My daughter has a wider foot so it fits perfectly
Cons
  • Very cute and fits well but not waterproof at all. Mesh surrounds the boot and water enters directly.
