Enhanced Midland 1001LWX 40 Channel Mobile CB featuring ANL, RF Gain, PA, and Weather Scan Review

After installing the device and aligning the antenna, it turned out that no signal was received. It broadcasts excellently, picking up NOAA perfectly, but no CB traffic at all, even with the squelch completely off. The counter doesn't even show the incoming signal. I even tried my arm next to my truck but not in the bone. Maybe that's a good radio for you, you shouldn't even give it back to me. I just move on to something else.

Nice block with weather section. Same size as Cobra 19 and Uniden 520. **Edit: After almost two years of use, this thing finally broke. The channel knob switches between 5-7 channels when switching, and where it is installed, the knob cannot be damaged. The noise reduction and gain controls now do absolutely nothing. The SWR was great while it lasted. First time with Midland CB and after only a couple of years I wasn't impressed.

I decided to go back and write a review because I ignored comments about the uselessness of the NOAA station feature. Well it is. Worse than I expected, even with comments. For some reason he doesn't want to keep the channel. For me, the weather function is probably the most used function. This CB radio will be replaced. Other than that, it seems to work pretty well with other features. Don't buy it for the NOAA feature.

This is CB. The actually simple technology of the device has not changed for a long time. I installed one in my jeep along with a VHF/UHF ham radio because some local jeep clubs still use CB. Other than that, it really doesn't have any real use other than using my Jeep's PA speaker to mess around with friends. Solid device at a good price. Build quality is good. LCD clarity and LCD off-axis viewing angles are very good. However, the squelch is unpredictable. This has something to do with the loudness of the audio - meaning that the behavior of the noise gate changes as the AF gain changes. You must be independent. There is also a big beep going back to the CB channel from the weather channel. This is most evident when using an external speaker. But as a simple, no-frills travel device, this device is quite satisfactory.

I really wanted to love this CB. That's a good radio. There were no problems sending or receiving the single. It has a very loud and clear internal speaker. But what made me give up that radio is that NOAA weather is just scanning. Unless I've missed something somewhere, when I turn on the weather it scans until I find the channel. Great little radio for the money. Mine came from the factory with a key of about 4 watts and pumped up to 10 or so. You can always connect the weather channel even if the antenna is detached from the ball mount. There's nothing fancy or technical about this radio, but it works well and is affordable. I have used a Cobra 19 DX-IV before but found it a bit noisy and blurry. I checked out the Uniden 520xl but wasn't overly impressed. After reading some reviews about the Midland 1001lwx I decided to give it a try. This radio is far superior to the Cobra 19. The sound is much cleaner and it actually seems like the range is a bit better, but I'm not sure. I have recently purchased a Midland 1001LWX through Revain and as expected the item arrived in excellent condition and very quickly. I just started using it and I think it's pretty effective. It's small, comparable in size to the Cobra 19 Ultra III, maybe 1/2 inch longer (front to back) than the Cobra and just a little narrower. Despite the stated dimensions they are basically the same size as both suggest they are not that tight. It is almost impossible to find a CB radio with as many features
