The battery life isn't that great. The volume is ok as long as you.

Works well for its price. The battery life isn't that great. Volume is okay as long as you stay indoors. The on/off switch slides fairly easily. I put it upside down in my purse, coat pocket, or jean pocket so it doesn't accidentally turn on. Which, if he goes the other way, could easily be turned on without my knowledge. It is compact, very light but feels sturdy. Purchasing this radio helped me determine what I really needed in a NOAA radio. I need a radio when driving in winter. I need the…

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

I also bought an Ambient Weather WR-090 pocket radio based on the price and good reviews and I have to say I like the WR-090 more than the Midland. very similar between them. The reception of the WR-090 is slightly better than the midrange I would say. The quality is the same. And cheap plastic and toys. AM/FM radio so you can listen to a local radio station for weather updates. I like that it has a backlight. I like that it has a flash. It has no batteries. It has a headphone jack. It's not a…

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Love this radio and how I use it

I sold a Subaru that had a Noaa radio and really miss it. I don't want to put my iPhone & co. in my armpit, so I just stick it in my cup holder to get the weather forecast every now and then and I'm perfectly happy. Loud enough to hear. It is convenient to adjust the volume with the up or down arrow keys. It features an extended 6-inch antenna that doesn't interfere with the radio when the engine is running. I also tried my Ccrane Observer and used an audio cable from the headphone jack to the…

Not static unlike AM radio when lightning is nearby

My city relays the NOAA weather forecast for our area in the upper part of the AM band. Sounds good right? You don't have to buy a special radio, do you? But it turns out there are two problems here. The minor problem is that my city is fifteen out of thirty minutes ahead of the NOAA broadcast for inserting local public announcements. The more serious problem is that when there's a big storm coming, so lots of lightning strikes from cloud to ground, what I pick up from the AM station is a…

I would highly recommend this radio

The first HH50 Midland I received was defective. I returned it. It was credited quickly and I ordered a second one from the same seller. That's why I gave the radio four stars instead of five. I gave the seller five stars. If you need a portable radio receiver, then you are here! All the others seem to cost three times as much and work no better than this one. I previously had an Oregon Scientific WR601 model. It served me well for at least four years before it was dropped. I chose this radio…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

  • Negative gift

Peace of mind is best in portable audio and video

I needed a simple, reliable and inexpensive way to keep up with the latest weather updates and this radio fit the bill perfectly. PROS: Lightweight and well built with basic functionality. With this radio you can either follow the latest updates from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) (in ON mode) or simply receive alerts on dangerous events in your immediate area. The reception is excellent and the sound is clear. If you just want to be notified of emergencies, this…

Compact and perfect for emergency kits

I have an Eton emergency weather radio with built in NOAA warning system and an FRS radio with weather station capabilities, but I was looking for something smaller that would fit in my camping gear. After reading the reviews and seeing the low cost of the Midland HH50 I bought it to try. My first impression was surprised at how small this block is! It's smaller than the iPhone (though not as thin) and fits in the palm of your hand. The included strap and belt clip add functionality and utility

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
