Milescraft Insert Bit

The Milescraft Insert System for use with a router is one of the few inexpensive ways to make relatively complex inserts in wood with a fairly mechanized process, i.e. easier than making it entirely from hand to do. The 1/8 inch spiral cutter works well but is brittle. When handling and using, care must be taken not to stress it or break it. It can also take a long time to clean the earphone jack with a 1/8" bit.

Pros
  • Tungsten carbide construction for durability
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

great CNC machine: spiral

I actually use them for more than inserts, you won't find a better 1/8" shear for the money. Too bad Revain is having such a hard time finding this attachment - I had to really dig to find it. They may not stay sharp as long as cmt or amana but at half the price they are a better investment as this size usually breaks long before they ever dull. I would say they leave a significantly cleaner cut on the bottom of the bag than the aman Bit I have is the same size.

Pros
  • /8" downward spiral for inserts or other milling work
Cons
  • fluted

Excellent depth, even cuts.

Excellent depth of cut for a 1/8" diameter router. I use this on my CNC router and get very smooth ones Cuts with very little to no grain lift (aka fluff) when I'm cutting across the grain. Plunge requires a little care. Plunge cuts burn easily if the feed is too high, but good results are achieved with a gentle bevel and reduced feed. How any other drill even with good dust pick up will have 100% of the cutter width clogged with chips Down compression bits handle chips better but good luck…

Pros
  • replaces the 1/8" twist drill that comes with the design/inlay kit.
Cons
  • Great price
