Everything seems fine! We have just completed the installation using an existing flange. We have a ceramic glaze in our kitchen, an iron sink, so the drain hole is about 1.5 inches deep. I misinterpreted "sink size" on the datasheet to mean the depth of the sink, so of course the flange that came with Moen was too short.
