Description of Load Adjusting Shock Absorber - Monroe Shocks & Struts 58649

REDUCES SAG UNDER LOAD -- Ideal for occasionally hauling or towing varying loads; heavy gauge, calibrated coil spring reduces sag when loaded up to 1,200 lbs. (capacity limited by suspension, tires and transmission; see owner's manual). EXCEPTIONAL HANDLING -- Tuned specifically for each application, full-displaced valving automatically adjusts to road extremes to provide ride consistency. CONSISTENT RIDE -- OE all-weather fluid contains special modifiers to handle extreme temperatures and PTFE-banded piston helps reduce friction between the piston and pressure tube to enhance responsiveness to changing road surfaces. LONGER SERVICE LIFE -- Self-lubricating fluid seal retains gas and reduces excessive friction against the piston rod to help reduce premature wear while heavy-duty nitrocarburized rod delivers long life. IMPROVES PERFORMANCE -- Nitrogen gas-charge maintains tire-to-road contact for improved ride and handling by reducing aeration and shock fade.

Fits my 2001 Dodge Dakota 4WD

At first I thought they were the wrong size because they were 6 inches longer than my old ones when I measured them on the truck. I realized that I had to jack the truck off the frame and lower the axle. So the shock absorber fits. I had to lift the end of the shock so I could insert the bolt. Otherwise the fit is good, it looks good and the beefy spring keeps the truck straight with the extra weight in the rear.

Pros
  • Good price
Cons
  • Not bad

Good product at a good price

Bet on my 03' Dakota 4x4. Mainly for towing. Increase about 1-1/2 inches. Really helped with heavier loads. No sagging or plunging under moderate loads (2-3K). As you'd expect, this made for a stiffer ride. My settings required me to move. Brake line on the passenger side because it was too close to the spring. I didn't go off-road with them. Again bought for towing. Seems fine for my purposes. A decent dampener that does what it's designed to do. Would buy him again.

Works great on my Durango 98! Very happy.

I had to do some digging, but after speaking to a rep I was told the direction of these shocks. They drove my Durango 98 4x4 with no problems, even backstage. The rear is slightly higher than the front but fits perfectly with the attached and loaded trailer. I just towed a trailer on the interstate and had no stability issues. Every time the trailer tried to catch a fish, it was immediately absorbed by the bumps. Very satisfied.

Smooth dampers for shocks, struts and suspension

To install these shocks I first had to use a jack to line them up with the bottom mounting hole but once these shocks were installed I noticed that they were jacked up The back of my Dakota went up and when I went, oh my god those shocks go down the road like a Z71. They are excellent for the terrain and for all bumps. If these fail in my Dodge I will take them again because they are so good they are a must have for anyone who needs high performance shock absorbers. If I could give 10 stars I…

Good product, truck falls under load less, smooth ride.

Excellent shock absorbers to prevent the rear of the car from sagging under load. I've had the kit on my 1973 Wagoneer for over a year (adjustment due to lifter etc) and not only did they sag the rear end 1/2 inch when my pop up RV was hooked up, they did that too raised the rear of the car is about 3/4 inch unloaded. I had similar results with the second kit I installed on a 2004 Dakota. The shocks ride well enough for everyday driving, I haven't noticed any major degradation in ride quality…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Durability
