Great Charcoal Pencils

Wood-free charcoal pencils are comfortable to hold. Charcoal lays flat on paper. There is a clear difference between the three classes. Try them and turn them into woodless pens.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Legacy Model

Sharpening is convenient, but it can still break.

I bought these hoping to find a great solution for sharpening pencils and not having to worry about wood chips or breakage. Hard pencils work great. The soft one still breaks in the sharpener. I prefer to draw with soft pencils. They don't smear like others I've used but they're still good and have the added bonus of being comfortable.

Buy this (and a better case)

Okay, I lied about the packaging. I gave him five stars. All pens arrived in perfect condition, the packaging is intact. I didn't want to detract from the quality of the product itself. The packaging is good, just not "premium", "beautiful" or "convenient" for regular use. But these pencils are AMAZING. Soft, smooth, easy to wet, hard enough for painting. The colors in this set are great for skin tones, landscapes or flowers. I'm not complaining about the packaging, I'm glad they didn't put a…

A little dirty but nothing

Pros: 1) No need to deal with breakage. This is a HUGE benefit. 2) Soft - good 4/5. Cons: 1) I'm used to Wolf and General, and the soft pencil in this series is very good. However, you can find a bit of junk in it then and now, which makes it not a high-quality product, but good for students. 2) I wish they would sell them separately because I don't need medium or hard ones. You are bad at drawing. 3) Important note: They have a warmer yellow cast. So if you paint next to a wolf, you'll…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Bad instructions

One day I want to get a full set of undefeated.

I love these pens and have made a few drawings with them in addition to my other charcoal pencils. They are easy to sharpen with a regular sharpener, but I think you can use a knife to remove some of the varnish if you only want to use the side. And obviously yes they are carbon so they are brittle and if you drop them they will break. But it would be nice if I could break them myself first. After two attempts, Revain was unable to get me a set with all three pins that were originally intact…

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

I love her for many reasons.

I'm new to figure drawing and have tried many (most?) drawing options. I hate graphite, shiny and soft. I love charcoal, dark or light, gray or black, but finding the right one for my work has been a challenge. But so many options are very messy, or they're square so it's hard for me to figure out what I like, or they're not black enough, or the paper is too heavy to tear into new charcoal, or they break if you look at them. First: a note for people who are complaining that they dropped them…
