Got this for an older Ford car with a locking cap. The lock started to be difficult to open so we replaced it with this one so our teenage daughter wouldn't have a problem with the pump. Works and fits great.

My check engine light was on for a few months and I was told it was because my gas cap was not closing properly. I went to a mechanic who replaced the original cover with a new one. The light went out, but eventually came back on. I bought this cover because it is exactly the same as the original and solved the problem myself. I haven't had any problems since installing it.

I think there is an inherent problem based on ratings and reviews read online that the aging of the failure of the gas cap will result in an unexpected and catastrophic failure where the plastic parts hold the two halves of the gas cap snap together and, depending on luck when tightening the gas cap or attempting to unscrew the gas cap, can become permanently stuck to the side of your vehicle.
