. Last pump in over 7 years, it was a great idea. Remember

Having used my last pump for over 7 years this was a great idea. Keep in mind. MSR has a great guarantee. If I wasn't in the quandary I would have to send in my used pump under warranty. They would probably send me a new one.

  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Negative Present

Does what it's supposed to do

It's a shame they break from time to time, but ok, so be it. I carry a spare in case one breaks, which is fine as I also generally carry two burners with me (car camping) so can use two at the same time. However, I would be happy if they were less prone to breakage.

Doesn't fit my old dragonfly

I have a very old dragonfly. My fuel probe isn't long enough to open the pin valve deep in the fuel tank on the pump, although MSR says it replaces all versions. My old pump doesn't have this pin valve (which is probably why the probe is shorter). I repaired my old o-ring pump and brought this back.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • No performance

MSR Dragonfly Fuel Pump

Form, fit and function is fine but this device is more or less a piece of plastic so care should be taken when using it or storing it in a backpack. I don't give 5 stars because I think the price is too high. When I can buy a fully functional carburetor for my Stihl chainsaw for less than $30, that plastic pump feels way too big. I believe it's a function of supply and demand.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Slightly torn

It works well but needs frequent replacement

The dragonfly stove is an excellent and reliable piece of equipment, except for the pump part. This is my third replacement pump. The pump valve is sticking every time and the only way to fix this is to replace the pump. Basically, the plastic threads in the valve break over time. I've attached an image showing the problem. I think the pump should be metal, or at least the valve threads should be metal. It's good to have a spare pump, but I think these pumps are too expensive to swap out thatโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Everything is fine

Great replacement pump for my MSR

I have used my 43 year old MSR Dragon Fly mountaineering around the world. My old MSR pump eventually failed so I spent the money on a new repair from MSR. The new one works much better than the old one. When buying a new pump for Dragon Fly, be careful not to blush. Other multicolored (REI) are too small for the Dragon Fly fuel line. Revain shipped the pump and I received it in one day. The price was $10 cheaper than other sellers. Like the previous one, this pump is expected to last anotherโ€ฆ

Better than my original pump. Also works with very old models.

This pump has been redesigned in the 10 years since I bought my Dragonfly but is great for older models. With my original pump, when I opened the fuel bottle I wasn't concerned about applying torque to the valve and a micro-crack formed in it, causing a pressure leak at the exact moment I lit my stove. It was a little strange. But with the new layout, I have no problem loosening the bottle without applying torque to the working parts (although perhaps the main difference is that I'm carefulโ€ฆ

This is not only a solution but also an update

My old first generation pump failed and I didn't like the idea of spending $130 or more to replace my noisy camping companion. Dragonfly (actually, DragonRoar would be a more appropriate name for this oven). The new pump not only solved the problem but actually improved the overall performance of the oven I would say. Requires less inflation to get started and keep going. The valving is smoother and feels more precise. The only downside would be that the 'J' hook on the bottom makes insertingโ€ฆ
