Improved stone on whetstones

These amazing gooken bricks. It's advertised as 4000 grit, but it looks closer to 6k to me. I use it on my razors little by little and I can actually go to a sticky belt after this stone and get a pretty good shave. The next stone, Gouken Fuji, is 8,000 and you can get a great shave without having to go any further. I personally like the naniwa Guken line better than the special stones.

Pros
  • For fine finishing.
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Ordered on Apr 3 Aug 29 Crack

Exceptional performance. But it seems to swell and change shape when exposed to water. Even if you don't "saturate" it, there will still be expansions and contractions. After 4 months of ownership I found cracks on mine. I think this is due to uneven expansion and contraction associated with water hitting the surface in a "splash and go" pattern and drying unevenly. I love naniwa products, but I don't like how they feel less durable.

Pros
  • Made in Japan
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Suitable for hand tools

I'm new to whetstones so my review may not help much. Leaves a pleasant shine. Seems to cut decently, but most of the cutting has to be done at 1000 grit first. Kinda soft but manageable. Very cheap and I'm happy. Although I have nothing to compare. Now that I have more experience with stone, I can say that if you are not careful, if your angle is too big and you apply too much pressure, you can easily cut the stone. It seems to load pretty quickly compared to other gems. There also seems to be
