Ordered these for the special kids gates we have just built. Installation was pretty easy and for now they seem to be just what we were looking for. We'll see how they hold up when our daughter starts climbing gates / when she's old enough to figure out how to pick the lock.

Bought 2 of these for use in homemade barn door style baby gates. I added self-closing hinges to the gate so it always closes when someone enters the gate. The only negative I have to say is that the lock can be noisy when closing. It's very easy to hold the handle and keep the noise down, but it woke the baby up a couple of times.

I used this latch on the gate at the top of my stairs. They are not meant to be heavy gates, they are just meant to keep the dog or small children off the stairs if I don't want them there. My latch had a fairly strong magnet and was easy to install. The magnet itself isn't childproof, so I hung it high up in front of the gate. I used it with spring loaded self closing hinges on the gate so everything closes automatically behind me. I have the feeling that the money is well spent.

I have 1 and 2 years. At the top of the stairs, I can't go wrong if I forget to lock the child gate. And I also can't believe my 2 year old won't forget to close the gate behind him. It's not much, but it's enough that many gate locks, especially gravity locks, won't work.
