Trouble getting this online! As it turned out, Netgear's forced (automatic) firmware update wasn't working properly; He updated the router but not the satellite! The firmware version mismatch created problems that negatively affected adding this device to the network. After manually updating the original satellite to match the router's firmware version (which fixed some serious communication issues between the router and the satellite, which also made it extremely difficult to update the…

Not working as advertised

I have a house that is almost 200 square meters. I have a Netgear Orbi RBR50 as my main router along with RBS50 and RBW30. The RBR50 sits in front of my house where it connects to my cable modem and sits on a shelf in my office/work space. The RBW30 sits about 25 feet in my wall-mounted island kitchen. The RBS50 is on the opposite side of my house - about 50 feet from the RBR50 and 25 feet from the RBW30. Download speeds typically hover around 15Mbps. The RBW30 satellite is constantly…

Orbi so-so: Whole-home and mesh Wi-Fi systems

Purchased to complement an RBK50/RBS50 setup and try to cover a small area with a weaker signal. The RBW30 satellite is bulky, it doesn't have Ethernet ports despite being big enough to accommodate them and it seems like its only design, although it can be used as a router, is an extender. You take it and you put it in your pocket. You'll probably need to plug it in near the router for it to connect. I had to try several times to connect it to the router. You can then disconnect and move to…

Poor tech support for defective unit requiring RMA return

I recently purchased an Orbi satellite and after 6 weeks it failed. Contacting Netgear tech support was a little crazy. They only offer tech support for the first 3 months, after that you need to pay $50 for "Premier Service". So what happens if you ordered a device from Revain in April and it doesn't ship until June because it's out of stock? Yes, you guessed it, you have to pay $50 for a device that no longer has free tech support. Also, their tech support was less than helpful. After a long…

Useless installation information and zero customer support

I already have an Orbi WiFi System, but the coverage on the second floor of my house was inadequate. So I bought a NETGEAR Orbi Wall-Plug Satellite Extender for $134. The installation information was completely useless. Mention was made that the included ethernet cable was used but no cable was provided unless it is a cable that may have come with the original set which I bought over a year ago and now don't Can be found. You would think that with a purchase of $134 they could provide a cable…

  • Reliability

This little booster works great as part of the Orbi system. The Orbi itself is a great mesh router. I compared Orbi to Google Mesh Router and found Orbi works better for me. Google froze and froze. Those were the early days and things could change. Surely Orbi was busy. Orbi recently updated its firmware, which improved things a bit. Previously, the main orbi had to be in the center, and all satellite accelerators were in range of the main router. Now each satellite can communicate with the…
