Until someone figures out how to build steps with a stabilizer on each side, they won't become "stable" from a dog's point of view. I love them and the scissor effect of the stairs makes them a safe bet; However, my dog will not go beyond the first step. I will be exercising more and as for these steps I would recommend them. We bought these stairs for our 12 year old Golden Retriever to climb into our Silverado because she couldn't jump in anymore and was too heavy to do it easily to lift . With a little practice, the steps worked well. You have to make sure the steps are fully extended or they won't feel tight. Our truck has a crew cab and the rear doors do not open far enough for the steps to be fully attached to the edge of the body.
