Nuk3Y SP225 Extended Strike Nickel Review

I bought these for use in an old house with oversized door panels where the standard strike plates would allow the strike plate to hit the skin. The biggest complaint is that they are thinner than standard panels and are therefore flimsy. They also have a square cutout while the standard panels have rounded corners so I had to trim the doors to fit flush. Mostly minor issues.

These are used to lengthen the lock piece if you have thicker moldings around your doors. As you work, note that they are thinner than those that typically come with doorknobs. Also, the part that attaches to the frame has square edges, not rounded ones, so you'll need to cut off some material to get them to fit properly.

This extended locking plate was needed so that the door handle does not touch the painted trim. Luckily, the mounting screw holes were positioned the same as the old striker plate, making it easy to assemble and install. I really thought it was a bit overpriced for a simple metal stamping, but I understand that this is a low volume part and it takes a lot of work to finish individual parts, so overall I'm happy with this part.

It works like a striker so I'm happy with that, but they are thinner metal than the strikers that come with kwikset lock sets. Because of this, they fit less than the factory strike plate groove in the Mastercraft door frames we bought in 2010. The doors are still closed and locked.
