🌰 Olde Thompson 7.5-inch Dover Pepper Mill and Salt Shaker in Walnut - Since 1944 Review

Love the salt shaker and pepper grinder. The pepper mill grinds pepper very well. I like it, but of course some like it more. Love the feel of wood. Very slim and with clear plastic on the bottom, it's easy to see when you start going out.

Love this set! They are slightly larger than my previous set so don't need to be refilled as often. Like how to see the fill level so you know when to fill up, rather than running out in the middle of a meal. Oops! And they are really beautiful. All in all a great purchase!

The pepper mill doesn't work properly. Low quality. It takes many turns to grind it. After a lot of twists and turns, the pepper looks like a store bought, very good pepper. Pepper is not like ground pepper from the mill. I took out the pepper that came with the grinder and put in all the new peppercorns. The pepper mill was still in operation. Not working. Unfortunately I will throw it in the trash and buy another set.

This set looks great, seems to be much better quality than many restaurants. For something so small, I'm amazed at how much more complete it makes our kitchen feel. We used to have small 3-inch salt and pepper shakers, the simplest you could get cheap at Walmart or Target. They worked well but weren't particularly pleasing to the eye and screamed "cheap". It may not be glamorous high style, but they are very well made. The grinding mechanism in a pepper mill is screwed tightly to the bottom of the product, and the plug at the bottom of the salt shaker is made of hard plastic that can be screwed in, not soft plastic that shrinks and falls out. Amazing quality! I bought these to replace a beautiful Crate and Barrel marble set that fell apart after six months. Now the function over the form applies forever.

I bought these a few years ago and love them. But earlier this year, the pepper mill failed (the mill's metal gismoid detached from the wood because the wood was worn at the interface). Since I liked them before they broke and since they worked great for a long time, I decided to buy another set (wish I could just buy a pepper mill because the salt shaker was fine). However, the new pepper mill only has one degree of grinding: very fine. I can't adjust to field loops - or anywhere in between…
