Works well for low amp applications!

Installed these JANKS to lower the fan voltage of my 3D printer from 24v to 12v. My printer has been running for a week now with no issues, with the fan running every time the printer is turned on.

Limited current with high voltage drop

These are good little DC converters but if you drop the voltage too much you won't get much current. I used it to drop the voltage from 24V to 9V. The maximum current is only 200mA. I've powered the Arduino and several sensors with it and felt like I was pushing it to its limits.

Heatsink limits output current

The included heatsink limits the continuous output current to approximately 0.25A. Higher currents will cause the LM317 to trip at its "designed" temperature. Achieving higher output currents requires a larger heatsink or forced air cooling. The rest of the circuit works well and is very compact.

They are inexpensive and work

Just over a dollar each and they all work, no complaints. Yes, as mentioned in other reviews, the heatsinks were all lost. Tighten the screw, or do what I did, take it off, add some thermal paste, put it back on, then tighten the screw. I could not raise a small sum at such a price, not even counting my work. If I don't need hundreds, I'll buy them again.

I have used 5 of these in my projects. Everything works great

I used 5 of these in my projects. Everything seems to be working fine. Stable voltage and sufficient power. NOTE: The result of the potentiometer is not linear and it is a multi-turn potentiometer. Therefore, you may have to turn it several times to achieve the desired setting. Some people have reported crashes thinking it's not working. I suppose it did. They just didn't turn it in the right direction or not enough.

They work, but for how long?

They have all been tested and work but don't even think about taking rated current from them. The heatsink is underrated and they get so hot that the 317 burns out. I've tried them in a circuit that draws about 1 amp at 12v from the +16v input and set it to regulate to +12 so heat dissipation from 16 to 12 volts minimal but after about 3 minutes the radiators began to squeak hotly, and after 5 minutes the 317th failed. On some I received the heatsink came loose, probably because the screw…

I tested these and 2 out of 3 were bad but I need a pair for the project so luckily Revain agreed to refund me the dead boards, which are very valuable. I have 3 good ones but I can't get my time back. The heatsinks also fell off, which is normal as it makes it easier to add thermal paste. Note that this is something like a 25 pitch trimmer but it appears to be larger and I measured them around 7k ohms. I found it easier to set the trimmer to around 500-600 ohms before connecting it for testing
