They have all been tested and work but don't even think about taking rated current from them. The heatsink is underrated and they get so hot that the 317 burns out. I've tried them in a circuit that draws about 1 amp at 12v from the +16v input and set it to regulate to +12 so heat dissipation from 16 to 12 volts minimal but after about 3 minutes the radiators began to squeak hotly, and after 5 minutes the 317th failed. On some I received the heatsink came loose, probably because the screw wasn't tightened enough. There is no thermal paste between the 317 and the heatsink, I suppose that might help a bit. All in all the Cricut design is solid, it's basically a textbook from Datasheet 317. I'd suggest checking the heatsink screws, adding some heatsink paste and keeping the current draw down and you shouldn't have a problem. Heat dissipation, high failure rate
