This GPS came in very handy. I connected it. Windows 7 recognized the GPS and quickly installed it. I use it with BktTimeSync to keep computer on time for digital communication. The time synchronization program works perfectly with this GPS.

Not the cheapest but I needed something that didn't take a few hours of fiddling with. I plugged it in, went into device manager and saw it was set to COM3. Continue to setup OpenCpn - COM3 installed and done.

I was excited to try this out on my RaspberryPi 4 to add GPS and a time source for on the go. It worked the first time without having to search for inputs or drivers. Sometimes everything works right away, but this time it worked. As they say, "voila!"

I didn't want to buy a $600 GPS because Street Atlas has features I like and know how to use. This device worked automatically with Street Atlas and was accurate and reliable. This little USB GPS can turn your laptop into a chartplotter. Using OpenCPN and NOAA charts (free download) along with this USB mouse, you can see your progress on the laptop screen, as well as speed and direction. OpenCPN can be downloaded for both Windows and Linux, but I've never used this GPS mouse on Windows. USB GPS is displayed as a COM port.

I used this with Linux. It's easy to fix and works very well as a GPS receiver for location data. But it doesn't have the ability to control the PPS signal to synchronize the time. When you open the case, the PPS signal appears and the LED flashes. It would probably be possible to use this, but this is a very small surface mount LED and soldering would be difficult for people who don't know how to solder electrical components.
