You need a 9 volt battery for this. To turn on, press the FUNC button on the front of the device for about 3 seconds. Do the same to turn it off. To test RJ45 Ethernet, press down on the slide button on the side. "RJ45" lights up on the front panel. Plug the end of the cable into both RJ45 jacks on the tester.
