Got this pill splitter and noticed the blade has no cover to keep your fingers from being cut when the lid is wide open. Other styles have a retractable blade over which can make the blade hard to clean. I can use this very carefully but the blind person I purchased this for can not use this safely. So anyone with dexterity or sight issues should not use this brand.

We have to give one of our dogs pain meds sometimes. She broke her tail in an accident as a puppy, and if she runs too much it can cause her a lot of pain. She only needs half a pill, and splitting small pills is a total pain. These do a good job - the blade is sharp and it holds the pill in place well. I'm very happy with this option, and I am glad to be able to split her pills more accurately now.

I found that I could do a better job breaking some small pills with my fingers, with better results than by using the cutter. The cutter broke off smaller pieces.
