Works as a personal item on flights

My husband and I love to travel on a budget with minimal items. Now that airlines are charging for bags, we decided to purchase this backpack as a personal item. We flew to Florida with United for 5 days in economy class. Basic Savings now means you can't carry carry-on or checked baggage without a fee. These packages are perfect for the measuring station. That's right, we didn't have any leg room. We were just happy to have all our stuff with us. When we measured our bags, they were 2 inches…

On a plane with you

Just took this and a Moshi MacBook bag as my only luggage for 2 weeks touring Western and Northern Europe. I also have a 40 but it's a lot easier to pack and check - this time I took the 30, a tape measure and a small digital luggage scale and it was perfect for the low cost EU airlines I travel with flown. I had 2 pairs of dry cleaning pants, 2 pairs of technical pants, 4 beautiful blouses, a smart cardigan, 3 Solumbra shirts, socks, underwear and toiletries in a bag compressed to the bottom…

Great backpack! Look no further.

Amazing, this backpack is amazing. If you are looking for a quality carry-on backpack then look no further, you have found exactly what you were looking for. I've spent hours and days researching backpacks in search of the perfect carry-on. This Osprey Porter 30 is very comfortable with so much room but still meets the size requirements of most airlines. I love all the extra zip pockets. I put so many things in it and it didn't feel heavy. Having traveled around Australia with this backpack for

Versatile and comfortable

This is a very versatile and comfortable backpack for light travel or as a carry-on. a five day trip that included fly fishing and hiking. The stowable shoulder and kidney straps feel very comfortable and the compression straps reduce bulk. There are several zippered pockets for small items, electronic/business accessories, toiletries and tablets/laptops. The top pocket was ideal for TSA test items due to its easy access and the main compartment could be locked. I found that on a five-day load,

Quality and size for everyday backpacking

I used to buy the 46L because I'm a pack rat but then I realized it might be a bit big considering I don't use it that long or that often traveling so I shrunk to Porter 30. I'm not that strong and I'm 5ft 1in, 120lbs; There is a limit to what I can carry on my back. I love the design of this bag and the quality of the material is amazing. The handles are nice and strong and the shoulder straps are very comfortable. I know it won't feel like a comfortable travel backpack, but it's still pretty…

Fantastically well thought out

This hand luggage is fantastically well thought out. I've done a *very* thorough search both online and in person, and if you feel this bag suits your needs well, you probably won't find another bag that matches this one at a better price. (I thought it was expensive until I continued my search.) Plenty of room for your everyday gear, and plenty more room for your "workweek carry-ons" - provided you pack efficiently I'm sure (personally not t I know of another way of packing, but thought it was

Bag sent by the travel gods

Only read if you MUST. But be aware that you are wasting your time reading long reviews when you can already travel with this wonderful bag! The top pocket is ideal for quick access to small accessories. I usually leave my chargers, small headphones and luggage scales here. Maybe even hand sanitizer. I usually put my boarding pass and passport in the flat front pocket. I don't usually travel with anything else that could fit in there, so I never "lose" them in this bag. If security is important

Great backpack, not for narrow shoulders.

I'm a very frugal person, and the idea of spending more than $25 for anything less than a refrigerator usually strikes me as ridiculous. However, after an embarrassing incident where my husband and I forced ourselves to lug our massive wheeled luggage through a poorly planned two-hour walking tour of the cobbled streets of Rome, I became obsessed with the concept of the one-backpack trip and plan to do so in the future As we travel a lot more we decided it would probably be a good idea to…

Get ready for compliments and questions from other travelers

The new Porter 30 is a few notches better than my other Ospreys (Hikelite, Daylite, Daylite Plus, Veer Messenger Bag). It can be used daily but best suits my carry-on needs. It gives pride of ownership and looks fantastic. The material is very durable ripstop and the zippers, buckles, hip belt, hip pads and handles are a few notches better than my other Osprey packs. The admin area is kept in bright green and the zipped compartments for glasses and travel documents as well as a separate zipped…
