Works as intended. the best adjustable wrenches

for boat trim cylinders. Can't speak for heavier use but for my use it's excellent quality. My only advice is to check the set screws for pins before each use and they should be fine.

Think twice before you buy.

Overall, I think OTC tools are above average. In this case, the bolt broke on first use. I replaced the screw only for the second one to break. I finally drilled it down to the next larger screw size and now it holds. The pins are held in place by an Allen screw that keeps loosening and causing the pins to slide, which is another downside.

It fits well, but it's too cheap in material and too easy to break.

Very mixed feelings but in general it's too cheap for a professional mechanic. It fits very well in many places, the pins ensure a nice snug fit. That's where my positive review ends. You are using a 1/2" hole on a 1/4" pin! It cuts pens in seconds leaving the tool useless and no replacement pens are supplied. I'm buying a replacement for it right now, it won't be this one.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • I'll write later

The bolt holding it together broke on first use. The screw was not marked with a grade, should be a grade 5 or 8 screw. The box said it was made in the USA and components were sourced from around the world. I wonder where this screw comes from? OTC used to be a quality tool, or maybe not. In December 2012, SPX was acquired by Robert Bosch GmbH and OTC became part of their Bosch Automotive Service Solutions division.

worked fine Best in Hand Tools Category

I was concerned by some of the reviews about several gland wrenches but this one worked well. I needed to fix the fairing on my '95 Mariner OB that hadn't been parked in 25 years. The only adjustment I made was loosening the set screws and pushing out the pins to fit the holes on the cover (a little deeper). I used a 1/2" breaker and put my shoulder on it. It unscrewed fine, nothing broke, it didn't slip or loosen, the screw didn't cut, the pins didn't bend. Sturdy little tool!

NOT STRONG ENOUGH - DEFECTIVE ON FIRST USE

I bought this tool to remove the packing nut from a 3 inch hydraulic cylinder. The pins are held in the tool by set screws. Set screws tend to loosen when torque is applied, making pins easy to lose. The wrench is not thick enough to prevent the crowbar drive head from sticking out. This will prevent the wrench from being installed flush with the end of the gland nut. This makes the tool dangerous to use as the tool can easily come out of the holes in the gland nut. I have many OTC tools and…
