great kit includes more than what you need

great kit includes more than what you need. and arrange the screws. I drew colored circles on pieces of paper that match the ifixits manual and put the appropriate screws in each circle. One of the most frustrating parts of the process was attaching the LCD screws when you put everything back together. Use a small pair of clamp scissors to hold the screws securely so they don't get pulled in by the magnets.

Pros
  • dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • boring packaging

Mainboard in place. I gave up the idea of merging the drives with the SSD and decided to just use the SSHD replacement, which was doing fine until I realized the screw set was incomplete (a T8 screwdriver was missing), forcing me to go to the local hardware to go save in the middle of the installation. As a note; The kit had no good tools and 7 screwdrivers as in the photo. Rather it was a box containing 3 screwdrivers in plastic bags, a spatula, cloth, cables, suction cups and double sided…

Very well thought out kit

Absolutely superb kit. The only thing he could use was tweezers or large tweezers, but I got by with old surgical tweezers. Using this kit and watching detailed video tutorials from Other World Computing made adding an SSD as a second drive after an optical drive an easy and fun project. I would like to point out that if you buy a non-OWC SSD like me (I used Samsung) these can be thinner than OWC which requires more careful placement. This is because one of the cables has a 90 degree bend to…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have opted for a newer model

They sent me the wrong kit - it said 21.5" on the box but inside was a 27" kit. The quality of the product is not the best. I think it might pay off if you're adding a new SSD and need a cable, but if you're replacing an HDD with an SSD, all you need is a bracket (sold separately). The kit I received wasn't what I needed so I'm not sure how that would change my mind, but at $40 after tax it's hard to justify.

Pros
  • There's something in there
Cons
  • Expensive

I love Apple products but I hate the company's business model which makes products difficult to repair so instead of repairing or upgrading what you have and thus postpones a new purchase. This OWC kit doesn't make it "easy", but at least it makes it easier to repair/upgrade your iMac. I upgraded the hard drive on two different iMacs and their performance improved immediately.

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

I used this on a 2010 Imac 21.5 inch. I replaced the internal drive entirely with an SSD rather than installing the SSD alongside another drive, so I cannot comment on the connectors provided and their usefulness for installing alongside an existing HDD. I used a SIIG 3.5" to dual 2.5" drive bay for SSD. All tools provided are of high quality and work great except for the suction cups which were a little flimsy. The glass protecting the 2010 Imac is magnetized fairly well, so the suction cups…

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Not bad
