Not calibrated: bike tools and maintenance

Arrived brand new in box, looks in good condition. It was far from the size. A weight of 5 pounds is 14+ pounds and a weight of 10 pounds is 30 pounds. My carbon frame road bike reportedly weighed over 40 pounds. I didn't find a way to calibrate it myself so I sent the product back.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Nothing here

Easy to use but not that accurate!

It was easy to use and gave stable readings, unfortunately they were constantly wrong. It was always measured about 5% higher with calibration weights. Unfortunately this is the only problem I've ever had with Park Tools, maybe they should stick with the mainstream non-electronic instruments. The price of $70 should at least be correct.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Does the seller sell defective devices?

The device was completely without function when it was received. The face was so scratched it could be assumed it wasn't really new/from the factory. It came without batteries, which is suspicious for a manufacturer like Park Tool. Likewise, there was no product manual or information of any kind. It is said to be a defective unit that is being resold for a whopping $65.50...

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Vanish

Died after five years [UPDATE: soldered and revived]

I regret getting this. I expect a Park Tool product to last longer than this one. I'm saving the hooks to use for non-park spares. Cable leading to the board. Corrected and back to normal. However, the park should build it better. I keep three stars for my effort.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • negative experience

Not used by Revain; Cheap design

Bought in "very good condition" from Amazon. repaired center - received an item in an open box with heavy corrosion. Battery terminal causing the scale to fail. Even the most superficial verification by the seller would show that the device is defective. It's also a very cheap design; The battery contact points are very weak and I didn't expect this device to last long. Save your money it's a piece of junk - disappointing to see the Park Tool name on it.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

You can't do that when it's cold! Strange I know.

That would be five stars if it weren't for the odd fact that my scale doesn't work in the cold. I keep all my bike racks, tools, and bikes in a detached, unheated garage. When I first took it out of the box and put in batteries (3 AAA not included) it worked fine when turned on. It also worked well when I weighed multiple bikes. Then when I left it in the garage and tried to weigh another bike, it wouldn't turn on. I brought the scale in to possibly start the return process but when I tried a…

Poor accuracy at 10kg

If you are trying to minimize the weight of your bike this scale will not do. It claims to have an accuracy of +/- 20g. So if you weigh a 10kg bike, the weight should be between 9.98kg and 10.02kg or within 0.2% accuracy. Amazingly, when I repeated my 10kg bike 10 times, it showed a weight of 10.06 to 9.88kg, or an accuracy of 1.2%. This makes it futile to change components such as the chain, cassette or crank and understand what the benefit is in many cases. Each time I weighed, I very…
