Perfect cut: Wire cutter

Robust and high-quality cable cutter. The cut is precise, even when cutting the case. When making the body, be sure to use enough force and cut through as quickly as possible so you don't just squeeze it together. My only complaint is that the stigma came off after a few uses. Not that it really matters, but it surprised me a little.

Pros
  • Noble design
Cons
  • Working speed

I'm glad I read the reviews and bought these better quality cutters.

Read many reviews on cheaper cutters. and I'm glad I spent the extra $10 on it. I didn't expect to have to use them more than once or twice for a bike project, but I'm learning. I have used them several times. What should have been 1 derailleur cable is now 4 and what should have been 2 brake cables is now 4 as I did on both bikes. They work great and I'm glad I bought better ones. very happy.

  • Quality construction

Great for brake cables, good for home use

These stainless steel brake cables cut cleanly and easily with no frayed ends. Can't speak to durability and probably won't use it hard enough to test it, but the construction seems solid and there are no obvious flaws. One star deduction because the results with the brake housing are not so clean. -- all my attempts left a metal spur which I removed with a coarse file. However, this is a more satisfying result than anything else in my toolbox.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

Good price for a good cable cutter

This cable cutter cuts through stainless steel brake and brake cables as if they weren't there and effortlessly cuts through the steel cable jacket. There is some wrinkling when the sheath is cut, but I've never seen a cord cutter that doesn't crush the sheath at least a little. Most people use an ice pick to reshape the crushed sheath after cutting so it doesn't cause friction and premature wear on the cable. I prefer to use a small belt sander to clean up the ends of the case that has been…

Pros
  • Consistent test results

  • Communication with seller

I'm glad I chose this option over the more expensive option

[grammar edit] I've competed in three sprint triathlons and it's long overdue to replace my own shifter cables. I chose these cutters because they were on Zinn's list and were better on the budget than the ones I originally planned to buy. My Ironman buddy also praised it highly. I'm glad I bought them. Did a great job, looks great, great fit and finish (and I'm a bit picky about stuff like this) and I'm sure they will last longer than my body will let me ride. I wish the cutter had a special…

quality tool that does a great job with cables and body

This is my first time buying a cable cutter but I'm in the process of upgrading a few bikes so I need this; nothing I own could damage the Jagwire cable I ordered. This is a heavy quality tool that does a great job with the cable and case. I guess it's luck when cutting the hull, but sometimes a piece of the rolled metal hull will push through the hole and have to be moved with an awl. This doesn't always happen and it's not a big problem. If I didn't want to mess with it, I could cut it off…

  • Easy to read control panel

A must-have tool if you do bike maintenance yourself.

Although this tool is a bit pricey, I will use it several times a year to service my family's bike fleet. The cost is quickly offset by the cost of having your local bike shop do all the work for you. Bottom line, if you assume you'll only use it once, it's overpriced. However, if you cycle regularly, you will need to replace your cables at least once a year. The reliability of the index switches depends on the ease of movement of the cables. When cable covers wear out or get dirty, shifting…

Affordable Cable Cutters Any Bike Mechanic Will Love

I have wanted to buy a cable cutter for a long time. My dad's electrician's tools "don't cut it". I found them affordable and reliable. They cut bodies and wires easily and reasonably cleanly. In general, quality and durability are good. Great for the price, keep dry and cool, tend to rust in humid conditions. Lubricate the spring and other moving parts to prolong tool life. These cutters cut the brake housings with a slight bend, but this can be corrected with a file. For switch cases, it's a…

Amazing Cord Cutter

This is a very stylish and well made machine. It cuts through an internal cable or housing like oil. I'm an electrician and was reluctant to buy a bike cable cutter as the tools I had on hand got the job done. I've had occasional trouble with some of the cases, but there was nothing that wouldn't normally heal a second cut and maybe reopen it with an awl, so I figured I wouldn't need to spend money on a special tool. But this tool does such a good job that as soon as I got my hands on it I had…
