Precise Temperature Control

I bought a 3 gallon unit for my betta and 3 cory catfish. The heating was a small machine and had to switch off when the temperature was reached. After 3 days I returned home. home from work and all my fish were dead and my thermometer was up (going to 100). I was devastated as this is my granddaughter's aquarium. I have always used Penn-Plax heaters on my large aquariums, but have never found a small one. I found it here and I'm thrilled. I set the temperature the way I want it, love the light

I went back to the old style

I had a newer "digital" temp which has an adjustment, "click button" on the cord, closer to the plug than the heater. I really liked them, but they lasted a year at most. So I went back to the old glass tube style. I have 150 watts and it's a bit high on the back glass. I have 29l. Tall tank so I can just set mine up and I don't even have to turn it off for a water change and still not go below the 'red line' i.e. 'turn off when the water is below the red line'. If you have a working aquariumโ€ฆ

Failed to set temperature

Frustrating, it didn't work. I saw some mixed reviews but bought based on previous experience where I had a larger unit that lasted about 8 years before giving up last year. Unfortunately, this heater did not work properly. My tank was at 78 degrees and I adjusted the thermostat to 80 degrees (1/2 way to 82) but the light wouldn't come on. I had to move the dial almost 86 degrees before it would turn on, but the next morning my tank was only at 76 degrees. Waited a full 24 hours, still noโ€ฆ

Inaccurate thermostat

Heats water. But you'd be better off hooking it up to a heater controller or closely monitoring your tank temperature with an accurate thermometer and adjusting that heater accordingly. I keep my tanks at 78ยฐF. I set this heater to what should have been 78ยฐF. For the first few days the temperature in my 15 gallon tank hovered around 73C, so I turned on the heater at half an orange bubbling every 12 hours until the temperature in the aquarium reached 78C. With the heating switched on, it thenโ€ฆ

Great heater - aquarium heater

First of all, I recommend reading the 3-star review of March 7, 2018. I have a 25W heater in a 5.5G tank. As the reviewer recommends, I keep the room temperature fairly constant. I went through 4 heaters over the course of a month: one kept turning higher and higher until it cooked my fish when I had it there before testing the heater, another warned not to use with the light on. Tank and readings bounced all over the place, kept the third one as a spare as it was too bulky, finally stumbledโ€ฆ

Pretty big with SMALL flaws

I bought this heater about 2.5 weeks ago and overall I think it's a great heater for the money. This is one of the few heaters I've seen on Amazon that didn't "cook" the fish. When I first received it, it was slightly larger than expected, but that's not a big issue for me. I have this in a 3 gallon aquarium for my cockatiel and it doesn't take up too much space. I positioned him sideways on the back of his tank in the middle. I've had a rooster since January and to be honest I never bought aโ€ฆ

Read This Before Buying a Heater

Every heater is randomly tested for quality control. Read Revain 1 and 2 star rating before you buy, check out the pictures posted by real users and you will get real picture. In the end, I learned the following important things: 1) Metal heaters wrapped in plastic are much more accurate (Neotherm, Aqueon Pro, etc.), but they have their own problems. Metal expands a lot more when heated than plastic, which is why many users end up posting photos of heaters bursting/burning, fish boiling, etcโ€ฆ
