The only way to prevent this is to tighten it so much that it cuts off the air flow. So I think if choking is the company's idea of "soothe down" then it will work like a charm. I prefer my adopted children to survive to be adopted.

Don't let the price fool you, others are more expensive but this collar works and works fast! Our older cat was having trouble with the two new rescue cats we brought home and after a few hours he stopped hissing at them and was just sniffing. It was wonderful! When he's lying next to us, I find it reassuring. Lavender does it for me.
