🔒 Sealant Application: Polyethylene with Partial Diameter Coverage Review

This backing pad will float to the top if not held firmly. Now I need to order more caulk and cut out a few feet where this support rod was floating up. I had to use sand to get the depth I wanted and will never use styrofoam again.

Typical closed cell support rod. Unless you are a seasoned pro, remember that the rod must be firmly clamped in the slot. Otherwise, it will appear after installing the sealant. I was using it with Sika self-leveling sealant and ran into this annoying problem. Otherwise it's a good thing.

On the product, the manufacturer recommends twisting the two parts together when the gap is more than 3/4”. That is no solution! Sealant drains completely through the twisted rods resulting in 100% sealant loss. I lost five tubes of sealant. . I couldn't find a local shop that sells a larger rod. Finally, my sidewalk had a slight incline, and since this caulk is self-leveling (and works great), the caulk slid onto the underside, causing undesirable results. Please only use on flat cracks!
